Known for her wildcat eyes and her signature song “At Last,” Etta James was born on January 25, 1938. From an early age she developed a loved of music. In 1950 following a move to San Fransisco, California, Etta and two other girls formed a singing group. A short time later, the trio would audition and record their first hit song “The Wall flower.” However, soon after the release of this song, the group disbanded.

Etta continued to have hits songs though out the remainder of the 1950′s. In 1960′s she signed a contract with Chess Records in Chicago, Illinois. It was here she interacted with future legends such as Chuck Berry, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters and Bo Diddley. Also, it was during this time at Chess Records that Etta released her signature song “At Last.” Despite the successful years she had in the early part of her career, Etta wouldn’t get the recognition she deserved until the 1990′s. Over the years Etta had her ups and downs, but though it all, Etta would always get up when she was knocked down. Etta James has always been a fighter and an inspiration to many of her admires.

James Joyce Bio

Known as one of the most influential writers of the 20th century, James Joyce is a major contributor to the development of the Modernist Novel. Joyce was born in Dublin, Ireland in February 1882. At an early age it was hoped he would become a priest. However, he decided to focus on language study instead. It was in college when he begun to show interest in writing.

When Joyce graduated from University College Dublin in 1903, he left for Paris to study medicine, but found the lectures too difficult to follow in French. For the next 12 years, he drifted to where ever he could find work. Also, he tried to publish his writings when he could without much success. However, in 1915 that changed. He was befriended by Ezra Pound and a English publisher Harriet Shaw Weaver. In time Weaver would provide financing for Joyce so he could focus on his writing. As a result of this encounter, Joyce would eventually move back to Paris. Once there, he would finally be able to finish and publish literary works such as “Ulysses” and “Finnegan’s Wake.” Also, he would interact and become good friends with Ernest Hemingway and others. James Joyce continued to write until his death in January 1941.

Known for its shallow bays, Long Island offers many options for snorkeling. Points of interest to a snorkeler here includes the east side of the island and southern area, know for its sea cliffs.

San Salvador is known for its miles of unspoiled beaches, which is good for swimming, shelling, and of course snorkeling. Known as the music that shook up the world, the genre of Rock and Roll came of age in the 1950′s. This musical style is a combination of Rhyum and Blues, Jazz, Gospel and Country. First played in small clubs and juke joints, then later played on radio and telivision, this music became a worldwide phenomenon.

Some of the more innovative hits came from indepedant labels such as the Memphis based Sun Records, the Chicago based Chess Records and others. Some of the more popular performers of the era included Elvis Prestley, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Fats Domino. Enjoy this musical trip down memory lane.
