Chess Records
Owned by the Chess Brothers, and home to musical legends such as Chuck Berry, Howlin’ Wolf, Bo Diddley, and Etta James, Chess Records was known for producing some of the most memorable music. Initially, Leonard Chess was part owner of the predecessor to Chess records called Aristocrat records. Then in 1950 Leonard’s brother joined him in the music business. One this happened the Chess brothers became sole owners. They renamed Aristocrat records to Chess records, and they focused on recording Blues, Jazz and Rock and Roll. The Glory days of Chess Records was from early 1950′s to the mid 1960′s. During this time, many hit records and musical legends were born.
